Meet Hom Na.
Hom Na is a very recent addition to our herd. She is 38 years old and comes from Phayao in Northern Thailand. She has had two babies whose whereabouts are unknown. It is hoped that she will be able to mate here in Mae Taeng Elephant Park.
Hom Na was rescued from Phayao where she was destined to be returned to the logging industry in Myanmar. Hom Na injured her leg when she was 20 years old, in a logging accident. She captivated the heart of Khun La who could not bear to see such a gentle elephant returned to such a harsh and cruel environment. She has now been brought to Mae Taeng Elephant Park to spend the rest of her days in extremely pleasant surroundings and amongst friends who will care for her. Hom Na appears to be not in the best of condition, this is due to the surroundings she was living in. With the help of our vet and ample good food and a nutritious diet, her strength should soon return. Meanwhile she will be cared for in our Clinic and can rest and recuperate.
Her mahout is named Lunn. Hom Na and Lunn bonded instantly when she arrived in Mae Taeng. Lunn is overjoyed to be caring for Hom Na and has said he will take very good care of her and ensure she wants for nothing.
